trip to MT.

Category: Spring 2010 | Posted: Tue Apr 27, 2010 10:45 pm

I took a 10 day vacation to North Eastern Montana. To visit my stepson. The Town of Plentywood, is about a mile square with about 4,500 people. To say that it is a 'one horse town' is stretching the truth a bit. The nearest Walmart or department store is 110 miles away in North Dakota.

While there I helped my stepson Christopher with his first MT. garden. Plentywood is USDA zone 3. While there I went to the forums and asked what veggies grew in zone3 (Thanx to all who responded to my ?).
Chris is a recent transplant from SW Washington (Kelso) So he was used to nice rich loam that Kelso,Wa is known for, due to its location next to 3 rivers. I bought him some seeds that will do well there in his area. The photo below is a 25x60 garden area we tilled. Notice the fine silt.(fine grained sand looking dirt) the pic was taken before we amended with peat & Vermiculite.

OO A lovely blank canvas to work on - how exciting! Let's hope that all the seeds you bought for Christopher grow well and thrive for him. Do keep us updated on his garden's progress won't you?

It's good to have you back with us again by the way.

I too help my Son who lives in MT ..up left hand corner of the state , Kalispell . His first dug garden looked very similar to this one . Good luck with the first growing season .. we will have to swap pictures and see how each other did .
BTW ~ he even put up the fencing to keep the deer out ! Take care and thanks for sharing .
