Balancing way of life towards good living and good health
Category: Natural Alternartives | Posted: Tue Mar 30, 2010 4:13 pm I would like to add this blog to help those to understand that living our life on Planet Earth is an 'Art'. It is about balancing our diet, our health, our thoughts and everything else. The Universal Law of living is a very delicate balancing act. Balance in plus and minus, positive and negative, white and black (without light we don't know what darkness is), sweet and bitter, cooling and heating ect..the lists goes on and on. Having said that, having the right diet is about balancing and understanding the right type of foods which our bodies need - to stay healthy. Since I've been 'inspired' to talk about foods etc. here is a link to a website which was sent to me (by another website which I belong to). I'm not 'suggesting' that everyone should be vegetarian - I am not a vegetarian. My diet consists of no red meat, some chicken, some pork, I love fish (wild caught and not farmed seafood) and some other seafood mixed. Lots of vegetables, lots of fruits (whenever I can). I don't overcook my food and I enjoy drinking tea. I've a very interesting story about tea (from my grandmother). An ancient story about tea and its effect....later... It has been known to most of us that we eat fruits (as desserts) after a meal. The actual fact about eating fruits correctly, is entirely on the contrary. It is only beneficial to eat fruits on an empty stomach. Fruits should preferably, be eaten fresh. If you like fruit juice, drink it immediately after juicing - do not wait. Do not mix any kind of milk into your fruit juice. It will only defeat the purpose of keeping the minerals and enzymes fresh. I drink my fruit juice with a pinch of salt for cleansing. Water is very, very important. The right way to drink water is: 1 to 2 glasses of water (room temperature - not from the refrigerator) when you first wake up. If you can drink luke warm water - that is much better. I keep a jug of boiled water at room temperature - constantly/everyday. I have a 'boiler - thermos' for constant hot water. It doesn't use much electricity and it is very convenient. Sometimes, I do add a bit of hot water to my usual temp water (to make it luke warm). That is good for cleansing...anytime of the day. Go do your usual morning routine for at least 30minutes. Drinking water in the morning helps your body to 'flush' the toxins out of your system - after a night's sleep of recuperation. You can have a glass of fresh fruit juice (room temperature) in the morning if you want...but not cold juice (or fruit juice in a can/bottle). I try to have a glass of pineapple juice (unfortunately it's in a can) with pineapple slices at least 3 times a week. You can get it in the grocery store - read the labels - get the one label "pineapple slices with real pineapple juice". Next, drink a cup/glass of water, 30minutes before each meal. It helps digestion and everything else. Yin/Yang - 'Heaty & Cooling Foods/Effects' In ancient China (and even now), food has yin and yang effects. There are a lot to remember the different kind of food and its effects. It is a very delicate process and art of balancing which helps you to stay in good health. A very common 'heaty' and 'cooling' effect - barbeque. Everyone loves bbq. BBQ has a 'heaty' effect - why? ....fire...heating. To balance this particular meal effect, one uses a 'cooling' effect. Drink lots of water. I try to find a kind of 'fruit salt' like Eno (or a glass of tonic with a pinch of salt) to balance the 'heaty' effect of bbq. When I've had a bbq meal without cooling my body, I get sore throats and sinusitis inflammation. That's how my body works. Someone else may be able to take 'heaty' food - up to a certain point. After a while, the heat accummulates and that's how different ailments starts to show up. During summer time, the effect will be more 'heat' ...why?..because it is Summer time. A lot of sun, heat rises and our body absorbs the heat from the sun & from the ground we walk on......so...that is a double whammy! Concrete floor has a bad effect...walk on grass/lawn etc. Life is very delicate...we're all very delicate. Balancing is very delicate. We need to be very 'aware' of what we eat and our environment. I know...it sounds like a chore...but ...it is an 'art'. I will post more about 'heaty' and 'cooling' foods...later. This blog entry has been viewed 500 times

Soursop and its goodness
Category: Fruit Trees | Posted: Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:47 pm We used to grow all kinds of fruit trees and we also grew Soursop trees back in 1960s and 1970s until the govt bought our land and all of us had to move into highrise flats 'cos Singapore didn't have enough land for housing. I love soursops and they are sweet too. My mum used to make fresh soursop juices with the fruits in our glasses and it was delicious! Very useful information. I received this email from a good friend. Those residing in warmer countries, try growing this fruit tree. I would if I could. They sell Soursop seeds on ebay. This fruit tree is available in Malaysia and the fruits are sold in most markets/fruit stalls in Singapore and other Asian countries. At least read it once to spread the message! Please read about this miracle fruit that can kill cancer cells 100,000 times, more effective than chemo that gave you side effects. Moderator's note before reading: Although soursop is used in alternative medicine to help cure cancer, according to Cancer Research UK, there is not enough evidence of the fruit curing cancer in humans for it to be considered a mainstream form of treatment. Source: http://www.ehow.com/way_5445641_soursop-cancer-cures.html . Guyabano,... The SourSop Fruit The SourSop or the fruit from the Graviola tree is a miraculous natural cancer cell killer 10,000 times stronger than Chemo. Why are we not aware of this? Its because some big corporation want to make back their money spent on years of research by trying to make a synthetic version of it for sale. So, since you know it now, you can help a friend in need by letting her/him know or just drink some soursop juice yourself as prevention from time to time. The taste is not bad after all. It's completely natural and definitely has no side effects. If you have the space, plant one in your garden. The other parts of the tree are also useful. The Next Time You Have A Fruit Juice, Ask For A SourSop. How many people died in vain while this billion-dollar drug maker concealed the secret of the miraculous Graviola tree? This tree is low and is called Graviola in Brazil , Guanabana in Spanish and has the uninspiring name "Soursop" in English. The fruit is very large and the subacid sweet white pulp is eaten out of hand or, more commonly, used to make fruit drinks, sherbets and such. The principal interest in this plant is because of its strong anti-cancer effects. Although it is effective for a number of medical conditions, it is its anti tumor effect that is of most interest. This plant is a proven cancer remedy for cancers of all types. Try it out, it doesn't hurt to try a new fruit. Besides being a cancer remedy, graviola is a broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for both bacterial and fungal infections, is effective against internal parasites and worms, lowers high blood pressure and is used for depression, stress and nervous disorders. If there ever was a single example that makes it dramatically clear why the existence of Health Sciences Institute is so vital to Americans like you, it's the incredible story behind the Graviola tree. The truth is stunningly simple: Deep within the Amazon Rainforest grows a tree that could literally revolutionize what you, your doctor, and the rest of the world thinks about cancer treatment and chances of survival. The Future Has Never Looked More Promising. Research shows that with extracts from this miraculous tree it now may be possible to: * Attack cancer safely and effectively with an all-natural therapy that does not cause extreme nausea, weight loss and hair loss * Protect your immune system and avoid deadly infections * Feel stronger and healthier throughout the course of the treatment * Boost your energy and improve your outlook on life The source of this information is just as stunning: It comes from one of America 's largest drug manufacturers, the fruit of over 20 laboratory tests conducted since the 1970's! What those tests revealed was nothing short of mind numbing... Extracts from the tree were shown to: * Effectively target and kill malignant cells in 12 types of cancer, including Colon, Breast, Prostate, Lung and Pancreatic cancer.. * The tree compounds proved to be up to 10,000 times stronger in slowing the growth of cancer cells than Adriamycin, a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug! * What's more, unlike chemotherapy, the compound extracted from the Graviola tree selectively hunts down and kills only cancer cells. It Does Not Harm Healthy Cells! The amazing anti-cancer properties of the Graviola tree have been extensively researched-- so why haven't you heard anything about it? If Graviola extract is as half as promising as it appears to be, why doesn't every single Oncologist at every major hospital insist on using it on all his or her patients? The spine-chilling answer illustrates just how easily our health and for many, our very lives are controlled by money and power. Graviola- -the plant that worked too well One of America 's biggest billion-dollar drug makers began a search for a cancer cure and their research centered on Graviola, a legendary healing tree from the Amazon Rainforest. Various parts of the Graviola tree--including the bark, leaves, roots, fruit and fruit-seeds- -have been used for centuries by medicine men and native Indians in South America to treat heart disease, asthma, liver problems and arthritis. Going on very little documented scientific evidence, the company poured money and resources into testing the tree's anti-cancerous properties-- and were shocked by the results. Graviola proved itself to be a cancer-killing dynamo. But that's where the Graviola story nearly ended. The company had one huge problem with the Graviola tree--it's completely natural, and so, under federal law, not patentable. There's no way to make serious profits from it. It turns out the drug company invested nearly seven years trying to synthesize two of the Graviola tree's most powerful anti-cancer ingredients. If they could isolate and produce man-made clones of what makes the Graviola so potent, they'd be able to patent it and make their money back. Alas, they hit a brick wall. The original simply could not be replicated. There was no way the company could protect its profits--or even make back the millions it poured into research. As the dream of huge profits evaporated, their testing on Graviola came to a screeching halt. Even worse, the company shelved the entire project and chose not to publish the findings of its research. Luckily, however, there was one scientist from the Graviola research team whose conscience wouldn't let him see such atrocity committed. Risking his career, he contacted a company that's dedicated to harvesting medical plants from the Amazon Rainforest and blew the whistle. Miracle Unleashed When researchers at the Health Sciences Institute were alerted to the news of Graviola, they began tracking the research done on the cancer-killing tree. Evidence of the astounding effectiveness of Graviola--and its shocking cover-up--came in fast and furious..... ....The National Cancer Institute performed the first scientific research in 1976. The results showed that Graviola's "leaves and stems were found effective in attacking and destroying malignant cells." Inexplicably, the results were published in an internal report and never released to the public. Since 1976, Graviola has proven to be an immensely potent cancer killer in 20 independent laboratory tests, yet no double-blind clinical trials- the typical benchmark mainstream doctors and journals use to judge a treatment's value- -were ever initiated. A study published in the Journal of Natural Products, following a recent study conducted at Catholic University of South Korea stated that one chemical in Graviola was found to selectively kill colon cancer cells at "10,000 times the potency of (the commonly used chemotherapy drug) Adriamycin.. ." ....The most significant part of the Catholic University of South Korea report is that Graviola was shown to selectively target the cancer cells, leaving healthy cells untouched. Unlike chemotherapy, which indiscriminately targets all actively reproducing cells (such as stomach and hair cells), causing the often devastating side effects of nausea and hair loss in cancer patients. ...A study at Purdue University recently found that leaves from the Graviola tree killed cancer cells among six human cell lines and were especially effective against prostate, pancreatic and lung cancers. Seven Years Of Silence Broken--it's Finally Here! A limited supply of Graviola extract, grown and harvested by indigenous people in Brazil , is finally available in America . The full Graviola Story--including where you can get it and how to use it--is included in Beyond Chemotherapy: New Cancer Killers, Safe As Mother's Milk, a Health Sciences Institute FREE special bonus report on natural substances that will effectively revolutionize the fight against cancer. From breakthrough cancer and heart research and revolutionary Amazon Rainforest herbology to world-leading anti-aging research and nutritional medicine, every monthly Health Sciences Institute Member's Alert puts in your hands today cures the rest of America --including your own doctor-is likely to find out only ten years from now. Navajo Blackberries
Category: Food Pantry Projects | Posted: Sun Mar 21, 2010 12:45 pm I bought 4 mature Navajo Blackberry plants and got them planted the last 2days. Didn't realize that the SW garden has that much gravels in them. It took me a long time to prepare the 4 beds mixed with good topsoil and organic soil good for fruits and vegetables. I don't believe that I need to condition the beds in a row (to save some costs on soil in between them)......dug holes big enough for their roots...and then.....a bit more space...for the roots to grow...although...I don't know how much bigger the roots can grow....just anticipating. I've read that the upright and thornless blackberries need about 3 to 6feet of spaces between them. I still need to stake them as the Seller informed me that they had the canes grown up to as high as 16feet. I didn't ask them what they 'feed' them ...I'm just going to 'feed' them the way...I feel I should...perhaps I'll use some humus mixed with manure...I'm not sure...but I'll do some more research. I've planted the '1st set' of 2 within 3.5feet and the 2nd set about 2.5feet (center of plant to center). I'm just being curious how it will grow when placed together as I'll be putting in the stakes and possibly a trellis...if it will grow up to 16feet tall like the Seller mentioned. The roots are big...almost 12ins wide and one of them is a bit small. I can't wait to pick the fruits this year. This is my very first time to grow blackberries and I'm very excited about it. Starting our own seed vaults
Category: Seeds | Posted: Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:39 pm I've read some articles on seed vaults etc. and am planning to start one at home. It is most logical and important that each community in different towns/cities (no matter how small) to have their own seed vaults. It doesn't have to be a huge vault but at least a good size vault, enough to feed that community. It is most important to have heirloom seeds on vegetables, fruit trees etc and with all the commercial nurseries having their own 'hybrids', one get very confused with all the different products. Of course, we would love to have the good ones that can withstand the cold or the heat, to ensure that our hard work will produce good harvest to feed us all. I'm learning to understand the differences between hybrids and heirlooms and there're much more work involved when dealing with heirloom seeds and how/when to harvest the seeds and their life spans. Starting with the simpler ones is a good start for me. Saving seeds which are linked with my culture is my top priority then....I'll go on with the seeds from USA. Where to store the seeds? Perhaps, I'll store it in the basement, out of the light, where it is dry and a bit cooler than the main floor. There are a lot more researching to do and it will start with designing a special storage area for the seeds. Thank you for reading. Any ideas or comments are welcome. Just received my Chinese vegetable seeds...
Category: Food Pantry Projects | Posted: Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:21 pm Just received my Chinese vegetable seeds and I'm looking forward to planting them. We've been dealing with snow blizzards for this past week with failed power and have been without heater for 2days and 2 nights. Another blizzard hit us last night and today. Our pine tree branches broke and our power line got sagged. Managed to shovel the snow off and clear the branches...they're very heavy. But, having received the vegetable seeds uplifted my spirits and am dreaming of plans to start our vegetable garden. I've contacted a Pantry Food outlet here in Monongahela, PA, and waiting for the right person to contact me, on how to send fresh produce to them...to feed the hungry and the poor. God gave us this piece of garden and we're eager to give something back to God. I'm planting Red Hot Chilli Pepper, Green and White Pak Choy, Extra Dwarf Nai You Pak Choy, Small Pak Choy, Cantonese Pak Choy. I suppose that I'll have to give the food pantry some basic stir fry dish recipes...so that they know how to use them. It isn't easy to grow veggies with clay on the ground. I guess that we will have to add lots of good soil to mix them up...wish that there is another easier way to make good soil. We live within the town limit and we aren't allowed to burn anything. Tried that when we first moved here and the pine branches (and peach branches) smell horrible when we try to burn it. That's how we found out that we're not allowed to burn anything....through the local (free) newspaper...the next month. Will also grow some cabbage, broccoli, tomato and snow peas. We love vegetables and this will be our very first mini-farming. Am looking forward to it. Don't know if there're any special way to plant them but I love to design vegetable plots and/or raised beds. I believe that it will cost a lot more to have raised beds. We have a groundhog...here...residing on our property. A neighbor told us that she saw one, going round our yards and crawling underneath our front deck to hide...and that...is going to be another problem for us...to keep our veggies growing for the food pantry. Any ideas...all are welcome! Last edited: Wed Feb 10, 2010 3:25 pm This blog entry has been viewed 293 times
