A Beautiful Irish Garden

Category: Garden Tours | Posted: Fri Sep 07, 2007 6:48 pm

When home in Ireland at the start of September I took the opportunity to take a few photo's of my brother's beautiful garden. The garden is a year old but to walk around it you would scarcely believe it. Here we go.

Note: Click on any of the photos for a larger version.

Overall view of the garden

Down the garden path

Patio area (perfect for barbeques )

Water feature (not switched on in photo)

"Up Galway!" A dahlia displaying the Galway colours

Mixed perennials amongst the turf walled beds

A young upright golden yew Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata Aurea'

Crocosmia arch above nasturtiums and rubus

"Getting there" a shabby wall on its way to being brightened up

Dalia and bee combo

The pink daisy-like Echinacea purpurea

A worse for wear Lavatera x clementii 'Rosea'

Penstemon on its way to seed

A misted Schizostylis Coccinea "Mrs Hegarty"

Here's what the garden looked like last year

As you can see it is an amazing transformation. The birds, bees and butterflies love it also.

Hope you enjoyed this tour of just one beautiful Irish garden!

OMG that is the kind of garden I dream of having one day!!! All that work in just one year - absolutely amazing. I love the patio area and could spend many a happy hour there just drinking in all the beauty your brother has created. Thank you so much for sharing his garden with us Frank and tell him I think he must have ten of the greenest fingers I've ever come across.

I love the view out over the fields too, perfect backdrop for a garden like this. And that soil looks rich enough to make rocks grow!! Maybe I'll rethink DH's retirement plans, hmm, a move to Ireland?

That's GORGEOUS! I *wish* my garden could look like that in a year. It brings me hope for growing in a similar climate.

This is ABSOLUTELY everything a garden should be. ALL the bells and whistles included. Hats off to the Creator!

I am just sitting at my computer browsing around the parts of GardenStew that I have yet to discover and came across this beautiful Irish garden. What a joy to wander through it on this cold December evening. I particularly love the Galway dahlia as it reminds me of my dear departed father who used to have a passion for them and grew this particular variety. Thanks for the lovely tour.

I would love to go back one
day. not only is the foliage
beautiful but the people are very friendly & welcoming.

This is the garden I dream for..so much space, so much colorful flower, and the garden overlooking the wide infinite field..is a place for you to cleanse your soul. My father's garden is full of green leaves :P I always wanted to plant lemon tree (I bought one but it never want to grow)...I always wanted a field of poppy...maybe this is just a dream.
