African VioletsMy grandmother introduced me to african violets, saintpaulia. She always had her bay windows filled with violets in white milk glass planters. I have had good success with violets, even though I tend to neglect them for most of the year. I have about 25 plants and most of them bloom at least 4 or 5 times a year. When they are not blooming I move them to the upstairs bathroom & a spare bedroom that have the right lighting. Below are the plants that are blooming now. african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violets ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) african violet ( photo / image / picture from gfreiherr's Garden ) This blog entry has been viewed 611 times

African Violets have always beeen a favourite indoor plant for me. I have pale blue ones that seem to thrive on neglect and bloom welol for me each year. Yours are really lovely - I particularlly like the second and fourth ones.
Beautiful pictures of beautiful plants. Thank you for sharing on this cold January day.
You have a lovely collection, Gail. Seeing all that colour is just the thing for a snowy and gray day here.
Oh my, Gail. Those are picture perfect. I love all the colors of your violets. And as the others have said, just right for the cold winter days to brighten things up. Thanks for sharing with us.
Those are very pretty. You've done good getting them to bloom for you all at the same time. Mine will only bloom for me when I use violet food.
African Violets always remind me of when I was a school kid and one of the Sisters who taught us had a whole row of violets on the window sill. They were beautiful but of course, as kids we weren't as careful as she would have liked so she was always fussing at someone for getting too near or being too un-careful. She was a sweet Nun, nevertheless, and we all liked her, and the violets.
Lovely collection. They are all such beauties. You have a real talent for growing them. Login or register to leave a comment. |
