It was a busy day at the feeders

Category: Visitors in the garden | Posted: Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:20 am

The birds and squirrels must have sensed a storm was coming. There was a lot of activity at the feeders and on the ledge. I filled the feeders this morning because they were predicting 3-6" of snow. That is a "major" snow storm for East TN. We have lived here 9 years and have never had more than an inch or two. I restocked the seed on the ledge 4 times.
They were flying in and out like rush hour at the airport. When the flurries started around 2 p.m. it got even busier.

I had to keep shooing the squirrels away.

They would just run up the tree

or sit on the fence post and wait until I was gone.

It is still snowing but now they are saying it may turn to freezing rain. I am glad I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow.

We didn't get any snow but we had a lot of rain. It's freezing now though. I feel sorry for the poor animals and birds that have to find shelter from the storm and food, too.
It's good that you feed them. dooley

That does look like a LOT of activity. Looks like the grocery store must have looked this afternoon too!

Sorry to hear about the ice. We are getting more rain than we will ever need.
I am lucky if I see a single cardinal on any given day. My trees get full of waiting birds too but they are mostly doves and blackbirds.
Thankfully I do not have any bushy tailed rats raiding my feeders.

I'm so glad you feed all your birds - they certainly need it when the bad weather hits.
I hope you don't get too much snow or freezing rain.

Loved seeing your "backyard friends". Aren't the Cardinals pretty? Hope the storm isn't too bad, I saw it on national radar. We dodged it here in NE. this time.

Quite a bit of activity there, I'd say. Those colourful birds reaslly do decorate the brown and gray of the trees, don't they.
The activity in my lottie is meagre compared to this show of yours. :)

Great pictures. I love squirrels. I have read that they can be a pest but I wish I had some in my yard.
