Too Cold? - Started Inside!

Category: Just stuff | Posted: Mon Apr 12, 2010 2:48 pm

Wow I've been gone for a week and there is so much reading to catch up on! Guess I better get better organized with my time so I can stay updated.

Here's where I am at today on my starts in my "fake" greenhouse. Except the celery is in the house.

Today I found some time to get a few quick pics of some stuff I started from seed. First time ever doing this and I must say I am pretty thrilled. I have used every kind of container imaginable and it has been effective to say the least. Now I just have to get them through the next 3 weeks and we can plant. Hallelujah! Not bad for a first timer in my humble opinion. My mouth is watering already for good, fresh veggies.

Our budget didn't allow for a real greenhouse this year as we had hoped, so we converted a spare room in our garage to make do. It has worked out quite well, if I say so myself.

I'm so anxious to start planting in the real garden. Got to play in the dirt yesterday getting some trellises ready for the stuff I grow vertical. Woohoo - felt so good!

Figured I'd try! ( photo / image / picture from Newfpaws's Garden )

This has been an experiment and a half.

Funky container, but great tomato shoots at 10 days.

I'm telling ya, I used anything to plant in I could find!

Round relish tray with herbs. I have one compartment in here that is Dragon's Egg Cucumbers that I just started. They haven't sprouted yet.

More 'maters!

Purple Majesty Millet - should be pretty!

A few squash - but by no means all!

Started some Fireball marigolds 3 days ago, have one tiny little shoot already. Red peppers are doing very well in their styrofoam cups. Yarrow and Russian Sage (that I saved seed from last year) going crazy. I am a happy camper right now.

My little 4 week old Escape Artists

Category: Just stuff | Posted: Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:50 pm

So the babies are 4 weeks old today. Had to add another 6 inches to their barrier. I was sitting in the living room, talking on the phone, and I saw this little black blob moving in my dining room. Guess what it was!

Did I Tell You Spring is Coming!

Category: Just stuff | Posted: Thu Feb 25, 2010 9:02 pm

So this morning as I stepped out onto the deck to stick my face in the one small area of sunshine we had at the time, I neglected to note that there was a layer of frost on the deck. It can be deceptive at this time of year.

Down I went. Feet out in front of me like I purposely deigned to sit that way, my rear on the ground now wet and throbbing, and of course my coffee (oh my wonderful morning coffee) went flying high in the air. And even though it hurt, I smiled. This February frost means spring is just around the corner. The deceptiveness of this February frost means that daylight savings time is not far away which means spring is just around the corner and my yard, my precious sanctuary, will be bathed in the warm sunshine. This means spring is just around the corner.

My yard looks like a brown, barren desert. yet, if you look hard enough, you will see little green things sticking their noses out of the ground to reach for the short morning sunshine as it crosses the mountains. This means spring is just around the corner. The trees have little tiny buds on them and you can tell they want so desperately to open to that precious sunshine. This means spring is just around the corner.

Did I tell you spring is just around the corner?

Well, looks like hubby and I are agreed. They aren't going anywhere so I named them. They open their eyes, I just have yet to catch them with the camera. It's so fun to watch them trying to figure out how to make their feet work. And they growl. I love it!

Sure helps me find patience waiting for spring.

Eyes Wide Open!

Category: Just stuff | Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 6:11 pm

Puppies have opened their eyes. I'm in for it now, huh? I would take pics but they are so dark you wouldn't really be able to see. I'll wait a couple of days and then get some. Mom and Dad's eyes are a beautiful golden brown. Can't wait to see. Happy Friday everyone. It's going to be another sunshiny day here.

There Is A World Out There

Category: Just stuff | Posted: Thu Feb 18, 2010 1:35 am

Well, I actually got out of the house today for the first time in three weeks other than a jaunt to the store real quick. Been down with pneumonia and dealing with those beautiful new puppies. Tomorrow we do a vet check. One of them is starting to open its eyes!

So today I got to drive up north (about 1 1/2 hr one way)where we go to church to teach my Bible Study. It was a beautiful drive and like an idiot I forgot my camera so you will just have to close your eyes and imagine.

There is a grade that you go down that is extremely curvy and a very steep grade. As you start at the top you look out over this vista of unimaginable beauty. Way at the bottom there is a river. Between you and that point are tons of trees, a meadow or two, cattle roaming and deer skipping through the valley. Pine, aspen, tamarack...all kinds of trees. All sizes and all shapes. Wild turkey is rampant through that area.

Today the clouds were hanging over the tops of the trees like soft white cotton was draped and woven in and among them. The sun was shining and there was reflection from way at the bottom on the river of those clouds. Took my breath away by the beauty. Next time I will remember my camera. I grew up in Iowa and while the green rolling hills and the fields are pretty, in my heart nothing can compare to the enormous beauty of the mountains in and around the area where I live.

I've traveled much, seen much of the good old USA and every area has its draws and its own kind of beauty. For me, this will always be home. I can breathe here.

We started landscaping our way up the mountain last fall. ( photo / image / picture from Newfpaws's Garden )

We started landscaping our way up the mountain last fall. It looks horrid now, but it was pretty in bloom. I'll have to find those pics.

Here's the closest snow to me. ( photo / image / picture from Newfpaws's Garden )

At least I can see some snow. I really am envious right now of all of you that have tons of snow. I love winter as much as I do summer.

And last but not least..............
