Gnome Dome Makeover
Category: Garden Personality project | Posted: Thu Jun 22, 2006 6:31 pm Whenever I mow, I have to move all my potted plants (which is many) into the middle of the yard. Well this time I wanted to spread them out so my large lot wouldnt look so bare in spots. I moved alot of the planter into new spots. I think I moved every one of the pots to a new spot. I would love comments about it, good or bad. Keep in mind Im a renter so nothing more can go into the ground. As it is, we are talking about moving into a house (bigger) soon so everything in the ground has to be dug up and potted. I moved the hot pink Bougianvilla to my front door for color. I moved the mini cannas and 4 O'clocks out of the corner and put the Black Magic there. ![]() The other night I come home late at night and as I turned into the drive, my headlights caught something feeding off my pink Butterfly Bush. It looked like a hummingbird but with it so late at night and when my headlights hit it, it took off, Im wondering if it wasnt a hummingbird moth. Plus theres tons of butterflies that feed off it all day. So I moved them where I could see them from the front door. The pink one sits at the end of my row of plants next to the banana tree and the purple one now sits between my passion vine and fern tree.I added a few potted plants around the purple one to fit it in more in that area. ![]() ![]() This is a shot from the bottom step at the front door. ![]() The large orange pot(left) is the mini cannas. The metal thing with the black pot is an tomato stand thingie I used for my morning glorys when all my tomatos died. ![]() To the left in the upper left corner is my wild flower bed. To the right of that is a Ipeomea (SP?) Im trying to get to climb one of the tomato stands thingies, like it climbed the fence last year. In the foreground is the orange canna. To the lower right is another morning glory with one of the stands. The rose area is in the background. ![]() Another morning glory and orange canna. Gnome Dome addition!
Category: Garden Personality project | Posted: Tue Jun 06, 2006 7:06 pm My sister gave me a blue glass bowl weeks ago. Well, this morning I happen to look over at it taking up space on the counter and thought "Wow, that would be beautiful outside!" So I took it out and looked around. I then saw an old reptile cage that I had put outside a while back because it was so big it was just in the way. I was ,at one point, use it for a bird or two. I grabbed the cage in one hand and the bowl in the other and took of to the Gnome Dome. I put everything down and looked around at what I had to play with ( totally broke at the moment so everything had to be what I already had). I turned the cage upside down. It has one of those pull out trays for clean up. I turn the pullout tray upside down and slide it back into the cage. I took some black thick plastic I had and cut it to size and laid it in the bottom of the cage. I poked a few holes in it and filled with dirt.I then took my Honeysuckle , that just wants to climb and not be the hanging plant I wanted, and planted it inside the cage and started the training of it. I cut small holes in the cage so I could stick my hand in and easily train the honeysuckle as it grows. I then took one of my plants, that had been in that exact space until now, and broke it apart (its leaves will sprout roots, so no worries). I then planted it around the edges of the pull out tray. I added rocks from the lane and some of my garden freinds wanted to join the new addition. Four of my Garden Gnome friends (the four that tried taking off with my Froggie rain gage) and Jimmy the Crickett have found their way to the top now! Heres the pics of my new bird bath. ![]() Not pretty to look at yet, but soon! ![]() Honeysuckle ![]() the top ![]() ![]() from the front ![]() from the back ![]() HI!! ![]() This blog entry has been viewed 671 times

Adding personality to my yard
Category: Garden Personality project | Posted: Tue May 02, 2006 3:26 pm This is going to be an on going project. I got this idea from my sisters roommate, Nicole. She had this tiny little copper pot(for cooking). It is about big enough to hold three cups of water. She didnt want to throw it away because it was her grandmothers. So I drilled 3 tiny little holes in the bottom and planted an ivy in it. It looks just wonderful now. The ivy obviously loves its new little home. Well, After the storm the other day, I was out in the yard ,looking around. My yard is need of a personality. So I started looking around in my house and have found several little containers to use as planters. One is a steamer for a large pot. Its brown with lots of holes. And the other is a old canister...you know the kind you put sugar in. I have been using it for my paint brushes. Im getting ready to go to the local GoodWill and see what they have. Planters and plant pots are sooooo expensive! But I love a good hunt! So does Rob. He has a very good eye. So Ill be adding to this as I go....My yard is in serious need of some personality!!!!
