Backyard garden at our new house
Category: Our new backyard | Posted: Mon Apr 21, 2014 6:32 pm The backyard at our new house was almost non existent due to huge unruly brushes and trees. The area has so much potential that I couldn't not do anything about it. Bachyard (before) ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Backyard before 2 ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) And then we bought a saw and the husband got interested :-) The cleaning ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) 4/20 : I forget the names of the new plants that I am getting so listing them here. I planted these today: 1 Bergenia cordifolia 1 Erysimum Gold 4/21 : Whole lot of cleaning done. Put a path and planted some more. Even though there are no blooms yet, I can visualize how the garden will look when everything is mature and blooming. Today I planted 'Speedwell 'Sunny Border Blue' Veronica', 1 more iris, and the Oregano. This is how it looks today : Backyard 4/21 ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) 4/22/14 : added two 'erysimum coral glow' 4/24/14 : added a purple dianthus. It is flowering and planted it on one side of the path. Lowes didn't have another one this color. I am really looking forward to finding another one of the same color to go on the other side of the path.forward to Last edited: Fri Apr 25, 2014 5:19 pm This blog entry has been viewed 291 times
New garden area to design
Category: GardenProject - shade garden | Posted: Tue Mar 25, 2014 11:48 pm 3/25 I am excited about this un tackled area of the front yard. I think I can trim some low hanging branches of the tree to provide a little more sunshine to this part of the yard - but it will always remain mostly shady. Under the tree ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Right now, the brown pot holds my clematis that I ordered online last year. Date 3/25 ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Have to clean the area and go shopping for some cool plants - I know I don't want ferns though. 3/26 Haphazardly planted a huechera and 6 hardy primroses. I want to give a design to it. I have so many small terra cotta pots. Thinking of creating a 'pot border'. Still thinking ...... 4/9/14 Not much progress that are visible yet. Hopefully the hardy primroses, the huechera and astilbe will fill out. Added a rhododendron too.I wonder if I am putting too many 'very slow growing' plants in this area. I don't want to wait many years to enjoy this garden. ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) 5/10/14 The garden is almost done - only need to tidy up and mulch. 1 azalea, 2 hostas, 3 columbines, some huechera and hardy primroses are in this part of the garden. Also added rock border which I might change if I come up with a better idea. Must say the ivy clean up was the hardest. Also, the ground is so full of rocks - digging ensures a lot of calorie burn. Anyhow, here it is today : ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) 5/12/14 Mulched and its a wrap .... well, for now :) ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Icing on the cake? Columbine bloom - beautiful but I only have a not so beautiful picture : Columbine ( photo / image / picture from Tina's Garden ) Last edited: Tue May 13, 2014 9:00 pm This blog entry has been viewed 304 times

Phase II - From coffee filters to pots.
Category: Gardening effort of '09. | Posted: Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:00 am Its exactly 11 days since I put the hollyhocks and 4 O'Clock seeds in coffee filter in ziplock bags. A lot of seeds have germinated and some has little leaves sprouting too. So, figured it is time for them to graduate to their pots. Not so sure about the 4 O'Clocks - they seem to have a little rot on them. Very sweaty and moldy. Replanted the kalanchoe plant that I bought last month. Also took a little cutting. Lets see how that does. Kalanchoe cutting: [/img] Saw little shoots in some potatoes that was in the bag for the last two weeks. Mood struck, and one of the potatoes went to the backyard - a little experiment! Last edited: Sun Mar 01, 2009 3:04 am This blog entry has been viewed 555 times
Only God can make a plant, but I am in charge of the seeds...
Category: Gardening effort of '09. | Posted: Wed Feb 18, 2009 3:33 am ....so sowed some today(2/18). 18 4'O'clock seeds went to ziplock bags in wet coffee filters. 2 4'O'clock seeds in potting soil.My 8year old son has taken responsibility for these. 14 Hollyhock seeds are in ziplock bags in wet coffee filters. Now the wait begins...... (2/23) Noticed a couple of hollyhocks sending out little white roots and even a couple of 4'OClocks doing the same. In less than a week.........this is great! 2/19 Sowed a fistful of green peas seeds in the backyard vegetable patch. 2/21Now I can't stop...... Sowed white and pink Snapdragon seeds (these are seeds I saved from last years blooms)in starter pots. Blue butterfly pea vine seeds went to ziplock bags in wet coffee filters. Hope these do well-they are very special to me as I got only 12 of them from my sisters garden in India. (3/22) Rishi started his gardening journey this year on 3/22. He went ahead and planted some radish seeds, fell on top of them and was sad that they might not grow. On top of that it rained and rained all day. I hope he can harvest some of the radishes he planted - just so he can enjoy his efforts. Hoping my little boy loves gardening as much as I do. I also sowed some Morning Glory seeds which I had soaked the previous night. Some of the morning glory seeds went in a beautiful basket. If they indeed germinate and eventually flower, it will look beautiful. Both radish and Morning Glory seeds were 20cents per packet. If nothing grows out of these, I will learn not to go bargain humting with seeds. Last edited: Tue Mar 24, 2009 2:26 am This blog entry has been viewed 481 times
Blogging my gardening effort ...first time ever!
Category: Gardening effort of '09. | Posted: Tue Jan 13, 2009 3:36 am Why now? Well, I need to channel my excitement somewhere today. The 'big' reason for the excitement? Well, just found out that the three little plants that are in the front yard, that I keep staring at everyday, that lived through the snow so far and the ones' that I couldn't recollect what I planted there might be ...**drum rolls**... BLANKET FLOWERS. No, no, they are not my favorite flowers (shhh.. I didn't just say that) but the very fact that with all the sowing indoors, transplanting and babying them of last summer might have yielded something has me all happy :) I am not even certain that they are THE ones. But suddenly I remembered that I did experiment with some of these plants last season. Then I looked up online (thank you, Google) and the plant do look like the one's in my yard. Will have to take pictures and post for my Gardenstew friends to identify during daytime (why do I get wiser at night?) Now my fingers are crossed that these little ones do survive the remainder of the winter months and prove me right. These joins my 'watch list' of Hollyhocks,Lilies,Tulips and Geraniums. Who else is ready for spring? Here are the pictures : http://s156.photobucket.com/albums/t9/tinaK_bucket/My%20watch%20list%20of%2009/ Last edited: Wed Jan 14, 2009 12:22 am This blog entry has been viewed 531 times
