My world with Nature.

Photographs, and a few words about the birds that visit the garden and those that I manage to see.

A couple of mammals

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Thu Sep 30, 2010 10:26 pm

Had a good trip, not a lot of animals this time but did take a couple. Great scenery though and will be adding another two places to visit in the Nature site. For now here are a couple of animals.

Waxwing tale

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Thu Sep 16, 2010 9:32 pm

A waxwing hit the window today and landed on the sundeck. I went out and just picked it up. I put it in an open cupboard on the deck. After 15 minutes or so, it moved onto the edge of the bed I hadd made for it (just a towel in a small wreath thing)I then just put my hand near it, not touching it at all. It just hopped on, as I walked across the deck it slowly moved up my arm and then flew off. I had my camera of course, shooting the last pic.

Category: The Wildflowers | Posted: Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:00 pm

Just working on the name of the shapes of flowers etc. I have so many images that I find them all in my files which is rather neat.Shapes and Clusters. Working on leaves as well, although I have been doing those for a long time.

Lazy hummingbird.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Tue Aug 24, 2010 5:25 pm

For a few years now, for photography reasons, I have tried to place a twig of some kind near the feeders. Images with the feeders in the frame just didn't meet my requirements. These twigs give the bird a resting place and then they don't have to fly back and forth. Well this hummer has really got these twig things of to a fine art.

A few more Robber flies.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:35 pm

There are a few robber fly species, I'm lucky that I know the top expert in North America on the subject, he has written papers etc and is top man at the Museum.

A new damselfly

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:28 am

Also, getting away from that, damselflies wings are held close together along the body when resting, of course those that study them know this but there are damselflies called spreadwings, and here is one. They spread their wings when resting.

Robber flies in Magazine.

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Tue Aug 17, 2010 4:53 pm

I have mentioned I'm sure that I get calls for insects images from a Garden Magazine. They call and if I have an image or two I email them to them. In September's issue they have published nine of my robber fly pics which is rather nice, I even get my name there with the author of the article. I have known this for a long time so its not 'I must tell someone' but I would like to add a picture in case people don't know what a robber fly looks like. By the way Jewell, did you get the book I sent?

Anise Butterfly.

Category: My wildlife images | Posted: Thu Aug 05, 2010 5:59 pm

Here are the start and finished result of the Anise Butterfly. They do go through a number of changes. Had a nice surprise yesterday as one of the top publishers here signed up for our Nature Inn news letter. I have worked with him in the past but I didn't think he would be interested in my web site. He is the top guy on Bald Eagles and has the cams at different sites.

Emerging Dragonfly.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Tue Aug 03, 2010 5:49 am

When the dragonflies are ready to become adults like butterflies from a chrysalis, they climb up a reed or grass out of the water and then do their thing. I managed to take a photo of a dragonfly emerging. They shed their skins many times before this part of their lives. Rather neat I thought.
