My world with Nature.

Photographs, and a few words about the birds that visit the garden and those that I manage to see.

Missed a couple of days here.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Thu May 28, 2009 4:19 pm

Have been taking photos of marine life. With the tides so low and some knowedgable people identifying all the star fish, crabs and everything else it was a great time, Now its back to the birds. We don't get to see many owls so that is the image for today. A short eared one.

Been busy taking images of marine life, seaweeds, shells and sea snails etc. so I missed a little bit here. This is a shot I took today down at the lagoon, the first time I have seen these birds in what must be summer as they are in summer plumage, The smaller birds are Western Sandpipers.

Most people see the Canada goose and think that it is the only goose there is in the wild, well there are others. This is the white faced goose.

Male Kingfisher.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sat May 09, 2009 4:10 pm

The previous image of a Kingfisher is one of the rare occasions when the female is the colorful one. The male, here, is the duller one of the two.

I have been busy the last couple of days, hope you missed the birds. We had to get the May news letter out, a lot of work. Anyway, here is a kingfisher, there is always one around the lagoon, they sit on a wire so its not the best nature shot.

Different looking gull.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Mon May 04, 2009 7:00 pm

This heermann's gull doesn't look like the gulls one usually sees. It has black legs that helps with the ID. The one with the red bill is an adult the other is a juvenile.

One of the favorites.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Sun May 03, 2009 4:16 am

The Great Blue heron, takes a stroll. I watch these birds fishing and they don't do a lot of walking so this was worth a shot.

One of the uglies.

Category: My Garden Birds | Posted: Fri May 01, 2009 6:28 pm

But something that is needed I guess. They do keep the place clean. I see these birds around the lagoon where food for them sometimes washes ashore.Thank you for the messages and for looking at the pics. There are a couple of other geese that I have taken photos of so I will post others some time. Just 2 posts a day, so it is hard to reply to any questions.
