Another Haircut!

Category: Off Topic | Posted: Wed May 27, 2015 8:42 pm

Another haircut! I now have more gray hair than brown, and the brown has lightened up substantially. Also ditched my big brown glasses for my favorite color, red. A couple more cuts and I think all the color will be gone!

Finally got my garden website moved. I'll get things labeled eventually, but it's a start.

Getting the House Clean to Show

Category: House Hunting | Posted: Tue Mar 03, 2015 8:14 pm

It's funny how cleaning up and taking anything you haven't used in 2 years to Goodwill not only makes a house "show ready", but makes us fall in love with our current home all over again. We are having "neighbor issues" which is why we're considering a move.

The homes for sale in our area have been pretty uninteresting, outdated, or very poorly renovated. At this point we've fixed just about any problem we can find, and can spot a poor renovation job quite easily. All have been quite a downgrade from our current place and not financially wise. Looks like we might have to stay and hope for the best.

In the meantime, we're really enjoying our fresh looking home. It looks so much bigger inside with all the junk gone!

The Big House Hunt Has Begun

Category: House Hunting | Posted: Fri Feb 27, 2015 5:06 pm

I believe we have decided to move, but am not rushing into it. If we're going to move, I want it to be a special move, not just another "house". I've seen no homes the past 3 months of real interest, but we're looking at one Saturday that holds a lot of potential. It's an 1870 historical home that's been nominated for the National Register. It's priced right so we'd have the money we'd need to maintain it. Can't wait to see the inside!

Not Giving Up on Herb Garden

Category: Pianolady's Gardens | Posted: Fri Oct 18, 2013 2:50 am

Long time, no post. Once again, offline life has taken over. Fall weather has finally set in, so I had to decide what to do with my herb garden.

Unwilling to let the herb garden "go", I cleared off a counter and brought it in. Picked up a $7 heat lamp fixture and a $5 grow light bulb, and got it set up today. Giving up the counter space is difficult, but will be one way for me to keep my dishes clean!

Surf Ballroom

Category: Off Topic | Posted: Tue Aug 27, 2013 9:43 pm

We took a mini-vacation over the weekend, and visited Mason City and Clear Lake, Iowa. We'd heard about the Surf Ballroom (http://www.surfballroom.com/) and decided to visit, and we're glad we did. Talk about a step back in time!

Today's Non-Gardening Project

Category: Off Topic | Posted: Fri Aug 16, 2013 8:50 pm

I drive a 2003 Nissan Frontier. It had the base model speaker system in it, which is as terrible sounding as you can get. Even FM sounded like AM radio. The head unit is okay, I have CD and mp3 through my transmitter.

I didn't want to spend too much on speakers since I have no intention of getting a new stereo. I found this for $35.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_236TN653/MTX-TN653.html?tp=95. Installed it today, which was a little challenging, but not bad. Getting the clamp off the window crank was the most challenging part (but I learned a quarter works great to dislodge the C clamp).

Compared to what I had, it's great and I saved a ton DIYing it and avoiding Best Buy!
