Ramblings of a Sleep Deprived Mind
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Tue Apr 10, 2007 1:16 am I have worked the last 7 days, over the Easter weekend. I haven't been sleeping well and this morning I was up at 3:30 am to tell DD goodbye before she left for New York. I couldn't go back to sleep so I have been up since. I now have 2 days off and there's so much to do I don't know where to start. So here on the Stew seemed like a good place. When I was leaving work the garden center assistant manager was at the trash compactor. She was throwing away carts of Easter lilies, the big white trumpet ones. I was sick at heart. I went to my locker and on the way back they had several more carts full with a pretty pink lily. I don't know why they can't mark them down and try to sell them. They were going out of bloom but gardeners would have bought them to put in the yard. They let so many plants die bc of lack of water and over ordering. After I put Mom to bed I stayed out for a while. I got my pole driven into the ground for my sedum/succulent fan grate planter. I have to wrap the pipe so the cross piece will fit a little tighter. Then I will lash the grate on it with zip strips. The cross piece sticks out a little further than the grate, so I guess that means I will have to come up with some sort of garden junk to hang from them so they won't look out of place. DD has the camera with her so I will have to tease y'all till she gets back to take pics. I hope it doesn't look totally ridiculous. We'll see. Sarah is at a friend's house and without the kids it is so quiet here. I'm not to used to this. They are usually arguing about one thing or the other. Of course we have the dogs and cats to keep us company. Richard just fed the dogs and has them out for the last time tonight. Then he can finally relax. After the drive to New Orleans and back he is tired. And he has to go to Baton Rouge in the morning. Tomorrow I plan on finishing up the planter and planting up some containers for Mom. I also have a small bed to finish up and plant. A lot of that depends on the weather. We have rain in the forcast. If it does rain then I will do much needed housework. I'd better quit my insane ramblings before I bore everyone to tears. I think I will check out the forums. This blog entry has been viewed 3053 times
6 Days Off, Hooray!!!!!!!!
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:22 pm My anniversary date is coming up at work and I had 3 vacation days left, so along with my regular 2 days off and a personal day that is a total of 6 wonderful, no work filled days. I can do what I want, when I want and how I want. Today is the first, I am cooking a gumbo, we should be able to eat off of that 2 days. I want to go out to do some work in the yard, but right now I am just relaxing. Tomorrow I go junkin', can't wait. Calamity is bringing me some horse poop one day, probably Monday, so I have to dig her some plants. Sunday is church in the morning. Tuesday Mom has some test to run. So hopefully, weather permitting I will get the yard cleaned up, some weeding done, and if it isn't too wet, some planting done. My Sunday Off
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Mon Feb 12, 2007 5:21 am I have every Sunday off, but have been working them for the overtime. I was very tired today so I stayed home, and will do the same tomorrow, although my boss wants me to go in. Bubba, our big cat we raised on a bottle, is sick and has to go to the vet tomorrow. After church today Richard and I went to Sonic for lunch. We wanted to go to the flea market but had too much to do at home. We got back and watched the Victory Garden, then I marinated and injected the chicken for supper. We went outside and started working on weeding a flower bed. Got most of it done, but it was still wet. Tomorrow I am going to dig the cannas out bc they are taking over. I have to move some of the daylilies around and plant my gladioli. I will then fill in with some of the annual seed I am starting. I have so much to do in the yard, I think I have too much and may need to cut back or start mulching heavier. The weeds are so bad here. I have wild strawberry that came from somewhere over the winter and has taken over one end of a flower bed. It is really thick. Oh well, enough ramblings for today. I Am So Pis, Oops I Mean Mad

A couple of days ago a lady I work with, who lives in French Settlement also, stopped at the local store. Inside was a box of little puppies with a free puppies sign, the cashier had found them in front of the store that morning when she opened up. Well tonight we went to pic DD #1 up at the school gym. She had to work concessions for the basketball game. By the gym door, a box of seven puppies with a free puppies sign on it. I am very upset about this. I called a friend just now that was at the game, they took one and there was 3 left when she went home. Richard is going to ride up there to make sure they all got taken. I sure would like to find the person doing this and kick their a.... up into their shoulder blades. This blog entry has been viewed 714 times

First Signs of Spring
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Mon Jan 22, 2007 4:18 pm Daddy used to tell us the first signs of spring were when the robins showed up and when the pecan trees started to put out new growth. He always said there would not be another frost after the pecan trees did this. Well, I haven't seen a pecan tree yet, but we do have robins, by the hundreds. How We Met, Part 2, or...............
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Wed Dec 20, 2006 5:18 am how I fooled Richard, according to Richard. LOL When we first met we, of course, tried to learn everything about each other. So the conversation came around to where we grew up. Richard is from Kentwood, a small dairy town, on the Louisiana, Mississippi state line. I am from Darrow, a very small rural town, whose only claim to fame was the Mississippi River ferry to a larger town, Donaldsonville. In fact Kentwood seemed like a big city compared to Darrow. I told Richard we lived in the middle of cane fields, which was the absolute truth, they surrounded us. He always tells people I trapped him under false impressions, because I made it sound like my Daddy was a sugar cane plantation owner.(NOT) Silly boy. This blog entry has been viewed 511 times
Family Christmas Gathering 2006
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Mon Dec 18, 2006 4:12 am Yes, it was that time of the year again. Time for the annual family Christmas feast. My oldest sister could not come because her husband is not able to travel. My oldest brother did not come because he is a butt, and my youngest did not show either, who knows why. But the rest of us were there and we all had a good time. The kids are great, there are 5 young ones, ages 6years-10 months old. The older three are 17, 14, and 13 years old. Then the older older ones, 22, 21, and 18. Mom seemed to enjoy herself,even though she was tired when it was all over. It is at the middle sister's house every year. It is about and hour and a half drive, which isn't too bad, except you have to travel through Baton Rouge and cross the Mississippi River Bridge. Extreme traffic. The food, as usual, was wonderful, Honey baked ham, turkey, her wild rice dressing, peas, corn, sweet potato casserole, and homemade cresent rolls, plus homemade cookies and candy and an awesome chocolate pie. The kids tore into the presents and just loved them all. Sarah was happy, she got money. We got home at about 6 PM and this is the first time I have really sat down, so I am tired. What a Mess
Category: Family and Everyday Life | Posted: Mon Dec 11, 2006 6:34 pm I am finally decorating the tree. I have stuff strewn all over the place.I got a small tree and now wish I had gotten a larger one because I won't be able to use all of my decorations. Richard is on his way back from New Orleans and I thought I would have it all cleaned up by now. NOT!!!!!!! I am also cooking as I decorate and thought I would take a Stew break. I have to go bathe Mom when she gets up from her nap, so I hope I have it finished by then. I also have some jewelry orders to complete and a totem order to work on. That will make four totems I have sold as Christmas presents. And I haven't even cleaned house today. Oh well, there's always tomorrow for that, after work of course. And Richard will do some of what I didn't get done. I like to try to do the things that bother his back while I'm off so he doesn't have to. All Work and No Play

We are really short handed and the last person we hired only worked three weeks and then quit, plus one person left for another job. Hope I can make it through the holidays.
